With an estimate of over 500 SWIMRUN races to choose from all year round, the adventurous-at-heart not only get the opportunity to explore their personal limits but also explore new destinations.
One such SWIMRUN adventure destination is the beautifully challenging rugged terrain of the Aegean Coast in Turkey – offering undulating ascents and downhills, exceptionally clear turquoise waters as well as historic sites, famous beaches and hidden villages.
This is one of the many reasons why the Meridian Adventure Race team have chosen their first EPIC BLUE SWIMRUN initiative to be held against the backdrop of one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world. A first of its kind in this area!
The Meridian Adventure Race team consists of adventure-driven sport enthusiasts of all ages and abilities, who amongst them share a true passion for creating meaningful physical events that evoke a sense of exploration.
The people, the weather, the terrain!
Izmir, Turkey’s historic coastline grants participants the opportunity to glide through turquoise waters of the bay before facing pine tree hillsides, rocky avenues and tangerine gardens. The local community is vibrant, relaxed and follow a ‘live-and-let-live’ culture that values family, community and good old-fashioned fun.
The weather over July is also perfect for adventures outdoors, offering longer days and shorter nights with an average sunset time of 20:30. The typical maximum temperature outside is around 32.0°C (89.6°F) and the water temperature is normally around 23.0°C (73.4°F).
As Turkey’s third largest city on the Aegean coast, İzmir is a renowned holiday destination with ideal water for swimming and various villages on the coast for relaxation.
The EPIC BLUE SWIMRUN Turkey event will be hosted by one of the leading villa resorts in Sigacik, Hidden Bay Teos (HBT). The resort shares the same passion and zeal for creating timeless moments, constructed around family values and experiences.
Activities and excursions can be booked directly from Hidden Bay Teos and offer unique adventure and cultural activities that not only promises to emerge you in the location but inspire exploration and adventure as well.
Sıgacık, the small historic fishing village that is the largely undiscovered tourism gem of the Izmir coast, holds many anthropological treasures and was founded by the Greeks, taken over by the Romans and rebuilt by Alexander the Great before becoming part of the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century.
Another İzmir district, Selçuk, is a significant historical site to visit, especially Ephesus. Ephesus is one of the ancient Greek cities in the region. The Temple of Artemis in the city is the most well-known ancient remnant since it is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This ancient city was home to one of the seven churches of Asia, as cited in the Book of Revelations. Along with the Temple of Artemis, the House of the Virgin Mary is another destination that makes Ephesus worth a visit, as it has been regarded since the 19th century as the place where she spent her final days.
The EPIC BLUE SWIMRUN course is breath-taking, tough and promises to challenge and inspire.
